The Northern Michigan University (NMU) women's soccer team is preparing to face Michigan Tech on Friday, October 11, in Houghton, Michigan. NMU currently holds a record of 6-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The team is on a five-game unbeaten streak with only one goal conceded during this period.

Recently, the Huskies hosted Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State but were unable to score in both matches, resulting in losses of 0-1 and 0-2. The Wildcats aim to capitalize on their recent performances against these teams as they prepare for their upcoming match against Michigan Tech.

In their last encounter on November 2, 2023, NMU defeated the Huskies with a narrow 1-0 victory. This win was significant as it secured NMU's first-ever GLIAC regular season title.

Jon Sandoval commented on the upcoming match: "Houghton is a tough and hostile place to play… This team is always a tough battle, and they always continue to fight, so it's going to be a grind… We have to make sure that we're up to the challenge in what we know is going to be an absolute fight."

The Wildcats are currently ranked among the top ten nationally in several categories including total assists and goals. Justina L'Esperance has been recognized as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week due to her impressive performance in recent matches. Brooke Pietila has also been performing well with nine points scored over her last five games.

Sally Patton leads the GLIAC with a goals-against average of 0.400 and ranks second in save percentage at .864. Historically, NMU holds an advantage over Michigan Tech with a record of 13-9-4 all-time.

Michigan Tech enters this matchup with a record of 4-5 overall and 2-4 in GLIAC play. Julia Pietila stands out as their leading scorer despite being held scoreless recently.

This game presents an opportunity for NMU's offense given Michigan Tech's current goaltending statistics which rank near the bottom of the conference.
