NMU golf team competes at Flyers Fall Intercollegiate

The NMU men's golf team participated in the Flyers Fall Intercollegiate at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Illinois. Hosted by Lewis University, the tournament included 17 teams. The Wildcats ended the first day in 13th place.

"Tough day on some tough courses," remarked head coach Ben Johnson, noting that both men's and women's teams were competing on different courses at Cog Hill Country Club. "We'll come back prepared to make a leap tomorrow."

Competing on course #4, known as Dubsdread, players averaged a score of 79.76 over 96 rounds. Walter Ylitalo led the Wildcats, tying for 13th individually with a score of 74 (+2). His round was highlighted by a birdie on the par four 10th hole and consistent play with 14 pars, leading the field in this category. He also performed well on par-fours, finishing T5 in scoring (+1).

Levi Pennala played as an individual and did not contribute to the team's total score. He shot a 76 (+4), recovering from an initial +5 over his first 11 holes to finish -1 over his last seven holes. Pennala's performance included 13 pars.

Tyler Annala was the second-highest scorer for NMU with a score of 77 (+5), featuring four birdies and seven pars, placing him in 27th position overall.

Eric Yun scored an 82 (+10) with one birdie on the par five 11th hole and eight pars overall, tying for 62nd place.

Joe Luke finished with an 83 (+11), including birdies on two par fives: the ninth and eleventh holes.

Arthur Ylitalo scored an 87 (+15), ranking fifth among his teammates and placing him at number 87 individually.

The Wildcats will conclude their participation in the Flyers Fall Intercollegiate on Tuesday, October 8.
