The NMU women's soccer team claimed a decisive victory over the Ferris State Bulldogs, winning 3-0 on their home field in Marquette, Michigan. Head coach Jon Sandoval praised the team's efforts, stating, "It was a great team effort after a terrific week of training."
Captain Brooke Pietila played a significant role in the win by scoring a goal and providing an assist. This performance allowed her to surpass Rachel Vilders as the program's all-time leader in career assists with 23. Sandoval expressed his admiration for Pietila's development: "She was an incoming freshman my first year as a coach, and to see her evolve as a person and a player has been really remarkable."
The Wildcats outperformed the Bulldogs with 17 shots compared to nine and maintained 54% possession. This victory moves NMU ahead of Ferris State in the GLIAC standings with an overall record of 5-2-2.
Justina L'Esperance contributed significantly with one goal and two assists, bringing her season total to 12 points. Molly Pistorius also scored, adding another goal to her tally for the year.
Goalkeeper Sally Patton secured her fourth shutout of the season by making four saves during the match. Maria Storm was notable for playing all 90 minutes of game time.
Looking forward, NMU will host Saginaw Valley State on October 6.
