As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government, we at Great Lakes Wire have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Washtenaw County in Michigan. The request, dated September 26, 2024, seeks detailed information about all payments made to vendors by the county from January 1 through September 26, 2024.

The specific data requested includes the vendor name, transaction date, transaction description, and amount for each payment. This comprehensive list will allow us to provide an accurate picture of how county funds are being spent and who is receiving these payments.

We believe that access to this kind of public record is crucial for our work as a media organization dedicated to reporting on local governmental affairs. Through this effort, we aim to hold public institutions accountable and provide much-needed transparency for the public.

As members of the media involved in gathering and disseminating news to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver for this information under the provisions of the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq.

We await a response from Washtenaw County officials and look forward to sharing our findings with our readers once we receive the requested information.
