Northern Michigan cross country secures five top-25 finishes at Lucian Rosa Invite

The Northern Michigan cross country team competed in the Lucian Rosa Invite in Wisconsin on Saturday, marking the halfway point of their regular season schedule. Five Wildcats achieved top-25 finishes, leading the team's effort.

Dani VanLente led Northern Michigan with a career-best time of 22:45.3, securing 9th place. Gianna Hoving followed closely, making it two Wildcats in the top-10 by finishing at 22:57.3.

Sophomores Lamar Gordon (23:22.2) and Emma Sweeney (23:22.8) finished together, taking 17th and 18th place respectively. Freshman Celia Wallace also secured a top-25 finish, placing 21st with a time of 23:27.7.

Six additional Wildcats ran sub-24 minute races and placed inside the top-40: Beverly Harper (28th - 23:41.9), Skylar Grubb (30th - 23:47.1), Elliott Smith (31st - 23:48.0), Sophia Potter (34th - 23:51.9), Brooke Lemos (36th - 23:55.5), and Anya VanSweden (37th - 23:56.2).

The Wildcats finished fourth out of ten teams with a total of 72 points. Winona State won the meet with 35 points, highlighted by three top-5 finishes including Sophia Taarud winning with a time of 21:35.2 and McKenna Taylor taking second at 21:57.4.

The Wildcats will be off next weekend before heading to Illinois for the Lewis Crossover on October 12.
