Wildcats tied for sixth after first day at Warrior Invitational

The Women's Golf team began their week in Washington, Michigan, participating in the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wayne State. After the first round, the Wildcats are tied for 6th place out of nine teams.

The Wildcats scored a +44 as a team, with Wayne State leading at +20. Saginaw Valley is in second place with +30, followed by Davenport at +32. Purdue Northwest is directly ahead of the Wildcats at +39.

"The weather made it a mental grind," said head coach Ben Johnson. "Everyone is in good spirits for tomorrow, and we are hoping to jump a few spots in the standings."

Maddy Martens was the top finisher for the Wildcats, placing 16th individually at +9 after shooting a round of 81 with a birdie on hole 11. Martens also recorded eight pars.

Abbie Pietila and Payton Dube both finished with scores of 83 (+11), tying for second place on the Wildcats and 25th individually. Pietila had three birdies and four pars while Dube contributed two birdies and six pars.

Hailey Bolander completed her round with an 85 (+13) featuring nine pars. Maggie Pietila finished with a score of 86 (+14), highlighted by one birdie and six pars.

Payton Donnelly is competing as an individual this week and sits in 49th place after day one.

Complete results from round one and live scoring for tomorrow's round can be found online. Round two tee times are not yet available.

The Women's Golf team will tee off for its second round at the Warrior Invitational tomorrow, September 24.
