SAGINAW, Mich. - In the first meet of the season, the NMU men's golf team finished 9th out of 14 teams, shooting a collective +31 over 36 holes.
The Wildcats were in 4th place after day one, shooting a +8 but took a step back on day two with a +23 for a two-day total of +31. Wayne State (B) won the tournament with a score of -3, while Wayne State (A) secured second place at +5.
Northern was led by Walter Ylitalo who carded a +3 first round of 75 followed by a second round +2 (74) for a two-day total of +5 (149). His score placed him 21st in the tournament, with nine birdies over 36 holes.
Right behind was his brother Arthur Ylitalo, who golfed rounds of +1 (73) and +5 (77) for a two-day score of +6 (150). Over his 36 holes, Arthur carded seven birdies.
Eric Yun took third on the team with scores of +2 (74) on day one and +6 (78) in the second round. Russel Sprecher scored +2 (74) and +12 (84), while Tyler Annala scored +6 (78) and +10 (82), rounding out the scoring for NMU.
