U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents operating in the Detroit sector have reportedly seized more than 200 pounds of cocaine, 60 pounds of methamphetamine, and 48 firearms during March.

This information comes from data reported by Robert Brad Simon, Chief Patrol Agent of the sector.

"Agents seized 48 firearms, 7,100 pounds of marijuana, 2.16 pounds of heroin, and 11.78 pounds of fentanyl, among other drugs," Simon said.

The Detroit sector has been operational since May 1924 when it was expanded from a team of 18 agents to a unit of 40. The sector spans an area that includes Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois and covers an international water boundary with Canada that stretches over 863 miles. This includes approximately 2,802 miles of lakeshores and riverbanks according to the Customs and Border Protection website focusing on the Detroit sector.

The U.S. Border Patrol is a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security. Its primary role is to safeguard the nation's borders and prevent illegal entry of people and contraband. Established in 1924, it operates in 328 ports of entry across the country while protecting around 7,000 miles of land borders and approximately 95,000 miles of maritime borders.
