CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY: President names interim athletics director Rachel Blunt, senior athletics administrator, steps into role

Abbott

Central Michigan University issued the following announcement.

Blunt moves to the new position from her role as senior associate athletics director of institutional support services and senior women's administrator, where she oversees CMU's student-athlete services and compliance departments.

Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Michael Alford announced in July that he would leave CMU at the end of August to become the next CEO of Seminole Boosters Inc. at Florida State University. Provost Mary C. Schutten is leading a search committee to select Alford's permanent replacement.

Blunt, who joined CMU in 2016, is a member of the Athletics Executive Leadership Team. She is sport administrator for the men's and women's basketball, golf, lacrosse and soccer programs.

"As a leader in multiple areas of CMU Athletics, Rachel is ideally suited and prepared to step into this interim role," Davies said. "Her breadth of experience will bring the necessary leadership and enable a seamless transition."

Blunt helps lead all aspects of the department's Leadership Academy, Fire Up Program, Emerging Leaders and Director's Table. She oversees all facets of student-athlete and institutional services, including compliance, financial aid, academics and development programs.

"Athletics are a vital part of life at CMU," Blunt said. "I'm honored President Davies has looked to me to take on this position and look forward to helping our department and our university meet challenges and embrace new opportunities."

Before joining CMU, Blunt served as assistant director of athletics for compliance at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, from 2013-16. She earned a bachelor's degree in sport management and an MBA from Southeast Missouri.
