WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, today announced $3,781,798 in federal investments for 43 projects to help Michigan farmers and small businesses address the climate crisis by making their operations more energy efficient. These projects include solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling units, and equipment and lighting upgrades. A full list of recipients can be found here.
“While the climate crisis poses a major threat to our Michigan way of life, farmers and rural business owners are stepping up to be part of the solution,” said Senator Stabenow. “These investments will expand the use of renewable energy and clean energy technology, lower utility costs, and generate new income for our farmers and small businesses.”
This investment comes through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program, which Senator Stabenow secured funding for in the 2018 Farm Bill and the Inflation Reduction Act. Both these pieces of legislation enacted the most ambitious climate-smart agriculture policies in a generation.
