Rank MI Vote has decided to pause its campaign to collect signatures for a ranked choice voting proposal intended for the November 2026 ballot. The group was one of six organizations seeking to gather enough support to qualify their initiative for the general election.
The organization aimed to change how voters in Michigan select many of their elected officials. To move forward, Rank MI Vote needed 446,198 signatures but was reportedly short by about 200,000 as of early December. On December 18, Executive Director Pat Zabawa explained the decision: “The decision to pause will allow the group to refocus on building momentum toward a future statewide victory for ranked choice voting in Michigan.”
It is not yet clear if other groups pursuing similar petition drives for the 2026 election will also suspend their efforts in the near future.
