WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and member of the Armed Services and Appropriations Committees, recently returned from a bipartisan congressional delegation to the Paris Air Show to conduct defense and intelligence oversight, meet with U.S. officials and foreign government leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, receive threat briefings, review the operational situation and aviation advances across all Allied Nations, and highlight American defense manufacturers.

“Michigan plays a critical role in our national defense and this delegation visit provided an important opportunity to promote American defense manufacturers and innovation on the world stage,” said Senator Peters. “This event also provided a chance to discuss shared national security priorities, including countering Russia as they continue waging an illegal war in Ukraine and China as they work to grow their influence around the world and undermine the U.S. I’ll continue to use my roles on the Senate Armed Services Committee and Senate Appropriations Committee to support and expand our state’s defense footprint.”

In Paris, Peters and the delegation met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the importance of providing continued support for Ukraine and working together to counter the Chinese government’s influence across the globe. He participated in discussions with U.S. Ambassador to France Denise Campbell Bauer and French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu. Peters also met with U.S. servicemembers, including a Navy aviation electronics technician from Westland, Michigan and with leaders from defense manufacturers that have a presence in Michigan, including GE Aerospace with facilities in Muskegon and Grand Rapids. Peters, alongside Governor Whitmer and officials from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, met with representatives from Parker Aerospace, which has a presence in Kalamazoo. He met with leaders from Joby Aviation, General Atomics, Wisk Aero, and other companies that are helping to lead the way in the development of innovative technologies.
