The Northern Michigan University women’s golf team finished in eighth place at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship, according to an April 19 announcement. The team’s season concluded with a three-round total of +151, trailing seventh-place Purdue Northwest by 41 strokes.
This result marks the end of the Wildcats’ season in NCAA Division II competition. The program operates from Marquette, Michigan and competes as part of intercollegiate athletics at this level, according to the official website.
Abbie Pietila led Northern Michigan with a score of +28 over three rounds, earning her a 25th-place finish individually. Pietila recorded three birdies and made par on 30 holes throughout the tournament. Payton Donnelly followed with a +32 for the weekend and also notched three birdies on various holes. Maddy Martens, Aavra Relich, and Gabriella Moreau finished consecutively from 36th to 38th place and each contributed one birdie.
In team standings, Grand Valley State University moved ahead on the final day to secure first place at +31, narrowly surpassing Ferris State’s +35. Both teams will advance to the medal match playoff finals after GVSU overcame an early deficit thanks in part to their performance on par-5 holes. Kamryn Shannon’s five birdies during her final round helped lead Ferris State into playoff contention with a personal score of +4.
