The Northern Michigan University women’s lacrosse team will play against Davenport on Friday and Grand Valley State University (GVSU) on Sunday at the Superior Dome in Marquette, according to an April 9 announcement. The weekend series marks the team’s Senior Weekend, with seniors Emily Radke, Mya Snyder, and Laine Stanton set to be honored before Sunday’s game.
These games are important for playoff seeding as NMU sits one game ahead of Davenport and one behind undefeated GVSU in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings. Northern Michigan Wildcats Women’s Lacrosse competes in NCAA Division II as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, according to the official website.
The Wildcats (9-3 overall, 3-1 GLIAC) come into these matchups after a decisive 16-7 win over Concordia St. Paul last Saturday. Junior attacker Josie Lakosky led with eight goals and three assists for 11 points. “We changed how we prepped for Concordia, so we want to be able to use that going into this week and see that we had success based on the way we prepped last week, which will hopefully help us be more prepared for the intensity that we need to have for these two coming games this weekend,” head coach Lindsey Majkrzak said. “It was just that we had more full-speed reps in practice… It was clear that more intense practice play really benefited us. So, we’re trying a similar formula with our practice structure in the next week to see what we can get out of this week and best prepare for these upcoming games.” Majkrzak leads Northern Michigan Wildcats Women’s Lacrosse as head coach, according to the official website.
Lakosky’s performance earned her both IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week and GLIAC Attacker of the Week honors. She now ranks among national leaders with averages such as seven points per game (first nationally), 84 total points (second), and is close to setting several single-season program records.
Davenport recently beat Findlay after losses against NMU and GVSU while GVSU holds first place following five straight wins including a recent victory over SVSU Cardinals by a score of 20-4.
Northern Michigan Wildcats Women’s Lacrosse operates within intercollegiate athletics out of Marquette, Michigan; it participates in NCAA Division II competition according to its official website. Student-athletes such as redshirt senior Emily Radke returned for this season’s roster.
Looking ahead, Friday’s game is scheduled for 5 p.m., while Sunday’s finale begins at noon. Attendance is free for fans; both matches will also stream live online.
