Northern Michigan Wildcats to face Grand Valley State in GLIAC championship game

The Northern Michigan Wildcats women’s lacrosse team will play against the Grand Valley State Lakers in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship game, according to a May 2 announcement. The Wildcats advanced after defeating Concordia-St. Paul in the semifinals and will compete for the title at noon Eastern Time at GVSU Lacrosse Stadium in Allendale, Michigan.

This matchup is significant as it marks the fourth consecutive season that Northern Michigan has reached the GLIAC Championship game. Grand Valley State has won the postseason tournament for four years running and aims to secure a fifth title on its home field.

In previous championship meetings between these teams at GVSU Lacrosse Stadium, Grand Valley State emerged victorious each time: with scores of 15-9 in 2025, 13-3 in 2024, and a close 11-10 result in 2023. The two teams also met twice during this season, with both games resulting in losses for Northern Michigan—once by a score of 9-4 and another by a narrow margin of 9-8 after leading into the fourth quarter.

Both squads received multiple All-GLIAC honors following their semifinal victories. Josie Lakosky was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year for Northern Michigan, while Ella Boose (Midfielder), Karleigh Rothe (Defender), and Sarah Krause (Goaltender) from Grand Valley State also earned top individual awards.
