62-B District Court Administrator/Magistrate Michele White was recently honored with the “Soaring Above the Rest Award” by the Michigan Court Administration Association in recognition of her many hours of voluntary service and her enduring commitment to the association and her colleagues.
This award is given to an association member who has contributed in a distinctive way to help others, devoted themselves to sustained and selfless voluntary service and shown innovation or creativity in delivering lasting results.
White has been an active member of the MCAA for many years. She has served on its board of directors and was recently elected vice president. She currently co-chairs the conference committee, which is responsible for organizing the annual conference for Michigan court managers. She also serves on the trust and confidence committee, working to enhance the public’s trust in the legal system through a diversity, equity and inclusion lens.
In addition to the MCAA, White is a member of the National Association for Court Management where she serves on its DEI committee, and is a member of the International Association of Court Administrators.
White also recently joined the Society for Human Resource Management and is working to earn certification in HR management to better serve the 62-B District Court. As court administrator, she is responsible for HR-related duties, among other court functions.
In addition to her professional development commitments, White regularly mentors new court administrators across Michigan. Whether a voluntary opportunity or assigned, she loves helping develop the next generation of court leaders.
White has been with the City of Kentwood since 1998, first serving as a deputy court clerk in the criminal division, then as chief deputy clerk in 2009 and deputy court administrator in 2013. She began her role as court administrator in 2015 and was sworn in as magistrate in 2016. Prior to her roles with Kentwood, she worked as paralegal for a small law firm.
White is a graduate of Creston High School and earned her associate and bachelor’s degrees in business management from Cornerstone University. She became certified in judicial administration by the Michigan State University College of Law in 2018.
