A man in his late 60s was found deceased in the garage area of a home on the 800 block of York Avenue, following an early morning fire on May 1. Firefighters and police officers from the Holland Department of Public Safety responded to the call at 6:43 a.m., where they discovered that the fire had self-extinguished before their arrival.
Authorities report that evidence suggests the death resulted from a fire that occurred in the garage. The origin and cause of the blaze are under investigation by the Holland Fire Marshal, who has indicated that an accidental cause related to smoking cannot be ruled out. Fire damage was limited to its point of origin.
Other agencies involved included AMR, Holland Police Department’s Victim Services Unit, and the Allegan County Medical Examiner’s Office.
