Hansen Foods in Hart, Michigan, announced on May 5 a partnership with the Michigan State University Product Center and MSU Extension to launch new packaged food products from four emerging local brands. The announcement coincides with National Small Business Week and includes offerings from Red Truck Orchards of Northport, Dip from Detroit, Bingo Roasters of Muskegon, and Smoke’N Butt’s BBQ from Grand Rapids.

The collaboration aims to support small businesses and local agricultural producers by giving these entrepreneurs a retail platform at Hansen Foods. All featured products were developed with assistance from the MSU Product Center, which works to help food businesses grow and reach new customers.

“Hansen Foods is a popular destination for anyone seeking fresh, locally sourced products. We’re proud to offer a variety of healthy, sustainable products that are as good for you as they are for our communities,” said Dave Hansen, store owner. “This year, we are excited to onboard four new brands and highlight their products during National Small Business Week. We are proud to provide a retail platform that helps these entrepreneurs reach new customers.”

Products soon available at Hansen Foods include Smoke’N Butt’s BBQ sauce; hot honey and hot honey seasoning from Dip; chocolate bars made with coffee, tea or protein by Bingo Roasters; and cherry vinegar by Red Truck Orchards.

National Small Business Week was established in 1963 under President John F. Kennedy’s administration to recognize the contributions of small businesses nationwide. It now features events across the country that honor entrepreneurs through workshops and award ceremonies. The 2026 observance runs May 3–9.

Mollie Woods, director of the MSU Product Center, said: “Hansen Foods has an impressive selection of Michigan grown and processed foods and beverages. We are pleased to partner with them during National Small Business Week. Our clients are continually seeking opportunities to showcase their products to new audiences, and placement on the shelves of Hansen Foods will be a great fit for these clients.”

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University addresses challenges in food systems through education and outreach efforts across Michigan via research centers like those supporting MSU Extension programs according to the official website.

The broader partnership highlights how university resources can connect local entrepreneurs with technical support while strengthening regional economies.
