Great Lakes Wire, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage of local governmental affairs, has sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Macomb County. The request was made under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., and seeks records of all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024, until September 26, 2024.

The specific fields requested include the vendor name, transaction date, transaction description, and amount. As we at Great Lakes Wire are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as a media organization actively disseminating information to the public, we should be eligible for a fee waiver as per standard practices with FOIA requests from media professionals. We eagerly await Macomb County’s response and will continue our work in promoting transparency in local government affairs.
