A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Genesee County, Michigan, on September 26, 2024. The request was made by Great Lakes Wire, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request specifically asked for a list of all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024, until September 26, 2024. The information sought includes the vendor name, transaction date, transaction description, and the amount of each payment.

As representatives of Great Lakes Wire, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information as a media organization, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq.

This move comes as part of our ongoing efforts to promote transparency in government operations and ensure that taxpayers’ money is being used responsibly and effectively.
