The Ferris State University women’s golf team secured a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championships after finishing third at the NCAA D2 East Regional Championships, according to a May 5 announcement. The event concluded Tuesday in Findlay, Ohio.
This result means Ferris State will compete at the national championships from May 12-16 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The top four teams from the regional tournament advanced, with Ferris State joining host Findlay, Grand Valley State, and Missouri-St. Louis among the qualifiers.
Ferris State improved its standing over three rounds of play. After an opening round score of 326 on Monday left them tied for fifth place, the Bulldogs posted scores of 313 and then their best round—a 304—to move into third overall. Individually, Lizzie Anderson led Ferris State by tying for fourth place with a total score of 226 across three rounds. Kamryn Shannon finished tied for 14th after shooting a final-round score of 70.
Other contributors included Kylie Walker (tied for 31st), Ashley Thomasma (tied for 60th), and Taylor Musselman (93rd). Paige Anderson also competed in one round. All participants played through all three rounds totaling 54 holes.
This marks Ferris State’s eleventh trip to nationals and its second consecutive appearance; last year was their first time qualifying since finishing sixth in 2009. The Bulldogs placed seventeenth nationally last season.
Ferris State Bulldogs Women’s Golf competes in NCAA Division II as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and is affiliated with Ferris State University based in Big Rapids, Michigan, according to the official website.
