Ferris State women’s golf remains in contention after two rounds at NCAA regional

The Ferris State University women’s golf team moved into a tie for fifth place after two rounds at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship on May 4, remaining close to qualifying for the national championships.

The event, held in Findlay, Ohio, saw teams play two rounds on Monday due to potential weather concerns later in the week. After an initial round score of 326, Ferris State improved with a second-round score of 313, bringing their total to 639 and climbing from thirteenth to fifth place overall.

The top four teams after the final round will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships. Currently, Ferris State and Indianapolis are both four strokes behind McKendree (Illinois), which holds fourth place. Host Findlay leads with a total of 605, followed by Grand Valley State (616), Missouri-St. Louis (623), and McKendree (635). West Chester is just behind Ferris State with a score of 640.

Lizzie Anderson led Ferris State through the first two rounds and is tied for seventh individually with scores of 78 and 74. Kylie Walker is tied for thirty-fourth with a total of 161 over two rounds. Senior Kamryn Shannon stands tied for forty-second at 164, while Ashley Thomasma is tied for sixty-second at 167. Taylor Musselman contributed as a substitute in round two with a score of seventy-nine and is tied for ninetieth; Paige Anderson played in round one and scored eighty-seven.

Ferris State Bulldogs Women’s Golf competes in NCAA Division II as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and is affiliated with Ferris State University based in Big Rapids, Michigan, according to the official website.

The final round is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning if weather permits.
