Ferris State tennis teams receive NCAA tournament bids for men’s and women’s squads

The Ferris State University men’s and women’s tennis teams received official invitations to the NCAA Division II Tournament, according to a May 4 announcement from the university.

Both Bulldog squads were selected during a live selection event held on Monday evening. The men will host one of two Midwest Regional Tournaments starting May 11 at Big Rapids High School, with indoor play at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center if weather requires. The women will travel to Findlay, Ohio for regional action beginning May 8.

The Bulldog women’s team earned its 24th all-time national tournament bid and second consecutive appearance, while the men’s team secured its 11th straight berth and will make its 29th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance. Both teams are led by head coach Mark Doren. Ferris State Bulldogs Women’s Tennis participates in NCAA Division II competitions within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, facing regional and national opponents, according to the official website.

In first-round action on Friday (May 8), the women are seeded third in the Midwest Region and will face sixth-seeded Rockhurst in Findlay, Ohio. The winner of this match advances to play either top-seeded Findlay or seventh-seeded Indianapolis on Saturday (May 9) for a chance to reach the Division II Sweet Sixteen scheduled for May 19-24 in Surprise, Arizona. Meanwhile, Ferris State’s men are seeded second in their region and open against seventh-seeded Drury on Monday (May 11). Winners advance toward a spot in Arizona as well.

Currently, the men’s team holds a record of 17-3 after winning both conference regular season and tournament championships; meanwhile, the women have posted a record of 13-7 as runners-up in both regular season and postseason conference play this year. Ferris State Bulldogs Women’s Tennis employs dedicated facilities for training and matches; it operates as a collegiate program aligned with Ferris State University and competes within its conference structure according to information from the official website. The program also earned GLIAC All-Academic honors for student-athletes during the current campaign according to the official website.
