The Ferris State University softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games on May 3 by sweeping a doubleheader against Purdue Northwest at the FSU Softball Field in Big Rapids, Michigan.
This performance capped the Bulldogs’ regular season, giving them a final record of 35-18 overall and a conference mark of 21-7. The team secured second place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings and finished with a home record of 12-2. The Ferris State Bulldogs women’s softball program competes in NCAA Division II as part of the GLIAC, according to the official website.
In game one, Purdue Northwest took an early lead with four runs in their first at-bat. Ferris State responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. After trailing by three runs into the fifth inning, the Bulldogs rallied to tie and then surpass their opponents for a comeback win, finishing with eight hits compared to Purdue Northwest’s eleven. First baseman Alexis Kozlowski led Ferris State offensively with two hits and two RBIs.
The second game saw another early lead from Purdue Northwest before Ferris State regained control after scoring four runs in their half of the first inning. The Bulldogs added multiple runs over subsequent innings to secure a 10-4 victory. Kozlowski again contributed two hits and two RBIs while pitcher Katie Shuboy earned her fifteenth win of the season by pitching all seven innings.
The Ferris State Bulldogs women’s softball program participates in both conference and non-conference games during its season, according to information from their official website. The program also supports student-athletes’ academic and athletic balance while promoting university athletic traditions as reported by their official site.
Looking ahead, Ferris State will enter this week’s GLIAC Tournament as the number two seed at Crown Point Sportsplex in Hammond, Indiana. The tournament is double elimination featuring six teams; Ferris State will receive a day one bye before playing on Friday against either Grand Valley State or Davenport.
