Michigan attorneys will receive electronic ballots later this month for contested races in the 2026 State Bar elections, according to a May 1 announcement. Ballots are scheduled to be distributed prior to the Memorial Day weekend.

The online voting process allows all active members of the Michigan Bar Association to participate in electing representatives. Polls will close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, June 15, and each member will receive a personalized ballot that includes only the races they are eligible to vote in. Members are encouraged to verify their email addresses by logging into the Member Area at michbar.org/MemberArea to ensure prompt delivery of their ballots.

The Michigan Bar Association is recognized as the unified organization for lawyers in Michigan, offering resources such as legal education and ethical guidance aimed at enhancing professional development and public access to justice. It partners with judicial bodies on legal advancements and community programs that promote diversity and understanding of the law, tracing its origins back to 1935, according to the official website.

The association operates under a Board of Commissioners and a Representative Assembly structure according to its official website. Its Lansing headquarters serve as an administrative hub providing services for members according to its official website.

In addition, it administers initiatives like the Legal Milestones program, which recognizes significant legal events across Michigan with commemorative bronze plaques according to its official website. The association also promotes diversity, inclusion, public legal education, enhancement of social wellbeing, justice administration improvements, advances in legal practices and public relations support for the profession according to its official website.

As voting moves forward this year using digital methods exclusively, observers note that these processes reflect ongoing efforts by professional organizations like the Michigan Bar Association both in modernizing governance procedures and fostering engagement among members.
