East Lansing Parks, Recreation and Arts Hosts Holiday Food Drive

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation and Arts (ELPRA) is hosting a holiday food drive with the Greater Lansing Food Bank from Nov. 1-15. Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road.

“We invite community members to help support our neighbors who are facing food insecurity as the holidays approach by contributing to this food drive,” Cathy DeShambo, Director of Parks, Recreation and Arts said.

People can bring their donations to the ELHCC during hours the building is open: Monday-Friday 6 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday noon-8 p.m.

Only non-perishable food items are being accepted. These include things like jars of peanut butter, canned soups, canned vegetables, canned meat and fish, rice, cereal or pasta. It is requested that no donations be in glass containers as glass can break, causing damage to other food donations and possible injury to volunteers.

ELPRA has set a goal of filling two 96-gallon City recycling carts with donations. After dropping off their food items, people can enter a drawing to win fun prizes. These include water park passes, pottery, totes and ELHCC day passes.
