LANSING - Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has announced the conclusion of the Department’s review of a Plymouth Township voter intimidation incident without issuing charges. The investigation stemmed from an incident reported during the February 2024 Primary Election.

On February 16, 2024, the Plymouth Township Clerk’s Office raised concerns about alleged voter intimidation after discovering a solar light and a non-functional camera near a ballot box at a polling location. Subsequent investigations revealed that an election worker/inspector had placed the items to deter tampering and promote honest voting, as per reports.

After a thorough review, the Department found insufficient evidence of corrupt intent to support criminal charges related to the incident. Attorney General Nessel emphasized the seriousness of allegations related to voter intimidation and election fraud. She stated, "My department takes allegations of voter intimidation and election fraud very seriously. We will continue to thoroughly investigate each referral we receive from both local or state partners, and prosecute any criminal offenses we uncover."

Furthermore, Nessel highlighted the importance of understanding and adhering to the laws governing polling locations, urging Michigan voters, election workers, and volunteers to be aware of permissible actions. She added, "While this incident did not rise to illegal activity, it serves as an important reminder for all Michigan voters, election workers and volunteers to know what is and what isn’t allowed at polling locations and to comply with the law."

Individuals who witness or experience voter intimidation at polling places or early voting locations are encouraged to report such incidents to the Michigan Department of Attorney General.

The Department's handling of this case underscores its commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring a fair and secure voting environment for all citizens in the state of Michigan.
