Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched at 12:36 p.m. on Saturday, Christmas Eve, to a confirmed structure fire.

Rescue 6, Squad 6, and Car 3 were first on the scene to discover a two-story farmhouse fully involved with heavy fire. Crews made an interior attack first to search for three dogs still believed to be inside. Sadly, due to the intensity of the fire, crews were not able to save the pets and had to go to a defensive fire attack. Engine 2, Rescue 3, and Engine 5 all played vital roles in the attack and water supply, and East Leroy Township Fire Department and Climax Fire Department provided crucial tanker/water support. The homeowner made it out safely and the fire is under investigation.
